Join our group of panelists for a discussion on the cost and schedule implications of building tall towers at scale using mass timber.
The panel includes a group of local architects, engineers, builders, and consultants who have conducted an in-depth study comparing the cost, schedule, and code implications of developing a 14-storey residential tower in the Lower Mainland using mass timber instead of concrete.
Some key topics will include:
- Why a design developed for a reinforced concrete building doesn’t support conversion into mass timber for cost competitiveness.
- How designing structure and envelope systems to increase off-site pre-fabrication of steel core + timber hybrid buildings will lead to faster on-site assembly, higher quality control and fewer trades involved.
- How optimized design, increased off-site fabrication, appropriate code changes and upskilling trades can accelerate development of mass timber’s cost-competitiveness.
