Join us for a two-day dynamic and interactive experience and learn all about "The Numbers Behind Housing Development".
If you're determined to have a future in real estate development, understanding the numbers is a must. Our instructors will draw from their own experiences and case studies to teach you the basics of proforma development, land and project valuation, sensitivity analysis and financing criteria.

Ryan Wong - Principal, Ryan
Ryan Wong joined the firm in 1998 after graduating from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelors of Commerce (Urban Land Economics) degree. He has undertaken a wide array of assignments relating to commercial and residential properties, including office buildings, shopping centres/retail complexes, development sites, and multi-family residential. More recently, he has expanded his scope of services and has been retained as an expert witness in various rental arbitrations involving retail, restaurant and office space.

 

Michael Mortensen - Director, Liveable City Planning Ltd.

Michael launched Liveable City Planning Ltd in 2016 with 20+ years of development experience. A developer and a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners, Michael understands private and public interests. In Vancouver, he worked in public service for a decade - first with CMHC (Assisted Housing) and subsequently with the City of Vancouver (Senior Planner, Major Projects). His private sector experience includes transformative, mixed-use projects at scale in Vancouver, Toronto, and Los Angeles, and international experience leading development teams in Grosvenor’s London UK head office (2013-2016). Michael has served on the City of Vancouver’s Development Permit Board and the City of Surrey’s Urban Design Panel. He is an Adjunct Professor at UBC’s Sauder School of Business (MBA) and Simon Fraser University, teaching courses in Real Estate Economics and Urban Planning.

 

Derek Townsend - Principal, Citifund Capital Corporation & Citifund (Townsend) Capital Ltd.

Derek began his commercial real estate career with a dedicated focus on rental apartment financing in Canada.  In short order, he became Citifund Capital’s leading expert on CMHC and conventional financing structures for apartment construction, repositioning and acquisition.  CitiFund is now a market leader in rental apartment financing and represents a robust apartment business with clients ranging from private investors to REITs. Beyond brokering loans, he has a passion to influence and advance the mortgage and development industry by volunteering his time on committees and Board of Directors for prominent groups such as CFAA, UDI U40, MIABC and LandlordBC.   

 

 

Leslie Wynick - Director, Real Estate, Commercial Financial Services, RBC Royal Bank

Leslie is a Director, Real Estate, Commercial Financial Services specializing in real estate. She manages a portfolio of approximately 25 real estate clients throughout B.C., including many high profile projects in the Lower Mainland and Victoria markets. Asset types include land servicing and subdivision, integrated land servicing and homebuilding,  low-rise to high rise residential condo/apartment/commercial projects.  Leslie holds a BSN and an MBA from UBC.

 

Fiona Ng - Director, Commercial Real Estate Royal Bank of Canada

Fiona brings more than 15 years of experience in financial services to her role as Director, Commercial Real Estate at RBC, where she manages a portfolio of real estate clients. Fiona has financed income producing properties and real estate construction projects in the Lower Mainland and Calgary, with deal size ranges from $10 million to $250 million. Asset types include land subdivision, townhomes, low-rise residential buildings, and mixed-use concrete high-rise buildings. Fiona holds a CPA, CMA designation.
