U40 Leadership Breakfast with Matthew Carter

Our April Leadership Breakfast host is Matthew Carter, President of GNW Trust.

Matthew is a real estate development professional with a focus on University-affiliated development projects.
 
Matthew is the President of GNW Trust and has held this position since 2009. The Trust is jointly owned by the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, Emily Carr University of Art + Design and British Columbia Institute of Technology. The Trust is actively redeveloping its 14-acre property (a brownfield site formerly owned by Finning International) to create an internationally recognized district for digital media companies, entrepreneurs, students and artists.
 
Matthew is a member of the Vancouver City Planning Commission and is actively involved in the Association of University Real Estate Officials, having served as its past president. Through his company, MGC Projects, he is also involved in other institutional development projects across Canada, most notably a new student rental residence project for SFU in downtown Vancouver.
 
Prior to GNW Trust, Matthew served as Vice President at UBC Properties Trust, a real estate development company owned by the University of British Columbia (UBC). He led initiatives to advance UBC’s vision to build a sustainable, mixed-use community on its Point Grey campus while creating an endowment to support its academic mission.
 
Matthew has an undergraduate degree in Urban Land Economics from Oxford Brookes University in England and is a Chartered Surveyor.
 
Originally from the UK, Matthew worked with Citigroup in London before emigrating to Canada in 2002.
