Affordability and Vancouver – are they mutually exclusive?

Join us to discuss the topic which seems to be on everyone's minds in Vancouver:
Is affordability achievable? Are smaller units the answer? Now that we are considered a world class city, is increased affordability realistic, or do we need a cultural shift in thinking about housing? For example – in New York City, not everyone gets to live in Manhattan.

Affordability is of particular interest to UDI U40s, as they are not only professionals working in the real estate sector but also living and raising families in Vancouver. However, this event is open to all UDI Members. Please come and contribute to the discussion!

Moderator Bob Ransford of Counterpoint Communications will lead a topical discussion with panelists of various perspectives:
  • GOVERNMENT – Margaret Eberle, Metro Vancouver Senior Housing Planner
  • ACADEMIC – Tsur Somerville, UBC Sauder School of Business professor and economist who specializes in researching housing markets
  • DEVELOPER – Jon Stovell, Reliance Properties CEO who pioneered the small-space concept with the award-winning Burns Block Micro-Lofts
  • PUBLIC – Barbara Yaffe, Vancouver Sun columnist who often writes on real estate and affordability issues
