Event Description:

The Step Code Regulation was approved in mid-April.  This is the first step to building near zero projects in Vancouver and across the Province by 2040. This seminar will help you prepare and achieve the upcoming building requirements in the next 5-10-20 years.

UDI is proud to welcome lead architects to share their experience in building Passive House Design and Wood Construction from Europe and United States. The City of Vancouver will also update participants on the recent issues surrounding natural gas, and the latest energy efficiency requirements above and beyond the building code.

BIO

SEBASTIAN MORENO-VACCA
As founding member of A2M, Sebastian Moreno Vacca leads A2M’s vision, design aesthetic and drive to be the most sustainable and energy efficient architect possible. Since starting his architectural practice A2M in 2000, Sebastian has led the firm to international recognition through his sustainable building knowledge and his numerous roles as president of the Board of the Belgian Passive House Association, founding member and director of Global Passive Building Council.  
 
MICHAEL GREEN
Michael Green is an architect known for his research, leadership, and advocacy in promoting the use of wood in the built environment.  He lectures internationally on the subject, including his 2013 TED talk on “Why We Should Build Wooden Skyscrapers,” which has been viewed over a million times. Michael founded his architecture firm MGA and his not for profit school DBR | Design Build Research to focus on progressive architecture, research, education, and innovation.
 

SEAN PANDER
Sean is a professional engineer with urban planning training. He has been at the forefront of local energy conservation and renewable energy planning and policy work for the past 15 years. He was integral in implementing the City's original Climate Protection Plan and more recently led the team in the development of the City's Greenest City 2020 Action Plan. Sean currently leads the City's Green Building Program team tasked with developing strategies, programs, policies and regulations aimed at having greenhouse gas emissions from all existing buildings and industries reduced by 20% and to achieve carbon-neutral new construction by 2020.
