Name: UDI Vancouver Lunch - Kim Baird: Relating to First Nations
Date: November 20, 2014
Time: 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM PST
Registration: Sorry, public registration for this event has been closed.
Event Description:

As the Chief of the Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) from 1999 to 2012, Kim Baird negotiated the Tsawwassen Treaty -- BC’s first urban modern treaty -- which allowed the TFN to be a self-governing First Nation as of April 2009.

Kim also spearheaded the TFN’s ambitious economic development plans, which include 335 acres of industrial land, 325 acres of residential land, and a 1.8 million-square-foot shopping and entertainment complex currently under construction.

Join us to hear from Kim, the principal of Kim Baird Strategic Consulting, as she shares insights on a range of issues relating to First Nations:
  • How can developers best approach and partner with First Nations?
  • What does the "landmark" June 2014 Supreme Court ruling about the Tsilhqot'in First Nation really mean, and how does it affect our industry?
  • What are her thoughts about the recent Jericho Lands deal, where three First Nations partnered with the Canada Lands Crown corporation for 52 acres in West Point Grey, plus 21 acres on Heather Street and five acres in West Vancouver?
  • What does this mean for future urban treaties and agreements?
We hope to see you there!
