Join UDI and our panel of government representatives on June 11 for a salient discussion about Green Building regulatory updates. The morning session will be moderated by Christian Cianfrone from ZEBx. He will be joined by Zachary May from the Provincial Government, Sean Pander from the City of Vancouver and Norm Connolly from the City of Richmond

BIOS


Norm Connolly | Sustainability Manager, MCIP, RPP 
Norm Connolly, MCIP RPP, is an urban planning professional and Sustainability Manager at the City of Richmond, where he leads a motivated team that is implementing actions from the City’s Community Energy & Emissions Plan, and spearheading development of broad Climate Action Strategy for Richmond.  Previously, he was the City of New Westminster's Community Energy Manager, initiating energy efficiency and GHG emission reduction programs for new and existing buildings through the City’s Energy Save New West initiative. Norm is actively involved with the Step Code Council and stakeholder initiatives that are assisting BC's Step Code transition.


 
Zachary May is the Director of Strategic Policy for the Province of British Columbia, with the Building and Safety Standards Branch. He is a member of the national standing committee on Energy Efficiency with the National Research Council of Canada. In BC, Zachary is the Chair of the BC Energy Step Code Council and leads the team that is tasked with implementing a provincial code for alterations to existing buildings.    

Sean Pander, Green Building Program Manager for the City of Vancouver is a professional engineer with a background in urban planning.  He is a member of the BC Energy Step Code Council, is chair of the Zero Emissions Building Exchange, and is a recipient of Canada?s Clean50 award.   
Sean managed the development of Vancouver?s global award winning Greenest City 2020 Action Plan and its Zero Emissions Building Plan.  He leads the City?s Green Buildings Team tasked with implementing two of the Climate Emergency Response?s ?Big Moves?.   
The team is currently developing and implementing programs, policies and regulations to reduce carbon pollution associated with new building construction and operations as well as emissions from existing buildings.   
  
Christian Cianfrone, P.Eng. | Executive Director, ZEBx -The Zero Emissions Building Exchange (moderator) 
 
Christian has spent his entire 15 year career working on advancing energy efficiency in the built environment. As a mechanical engineer, Christian consulted on energy efficiency for hundreds of projects across North America, leveraging the power of modelling and data visualization to optimize design solutions and communicate results to clients. In recent years, Christian has been instrumental in developing some of Canada's latest energy and carbon policies for buildings, having consulted on Vancouver and Toronto's Zero Emissions Plans, as well as the BC Energy Step Code. Contributing back to industry has also been important to Christian, volunteering his time on industry committees as well as developing and delivering education to professionals and students alike.
