Zachary May, Executive Director,  BSSB, Ministry of Housing 
Zachary May is the Executive Director of the Building and Safety Standards Branch, where he leads the team responsible for British Columbia's building and technical safety regulatory systems. He has led several national and provincial building code initiatives, including the development of the BC Energy Step Code. He is the Chair of the BC Energy Step Code Council and a former member of the National Research Council's Standing Committee on Housing and Small Buildings, and the Standing Committee on Energy Efficiency.  
 
Laura Sampliner, Environmental Sustainability Manager, City of Coquitlam 

With over 7 years working in local government climate related policy, Laura has worked for 5 municipalities across BC and Ontario to help advance climate action priorities. Most notably, Laura led the City of Port Moody?s strategy for early adoption of the BC Energy Step Code and development of the Climate Ready Homes and Buildings Plan. Laura previously served as co-chair of the BC Energy Step Code Peer Network for over two years, was a member of the Energy Step Code Council for two years, and has been active in advocating for and supporting enhanced policy for emissions reduction of buildings in BC. Laura holds a Bachelors of Environment, specializing in Environment and Business from the University of Waterloo, BCIT Sustainable Energy Management Advanced Certificate, and Whole Building Lifecycle Assessment Micro Credential from BCIT. 
 
Roberto Percora,  Director, ZebX
Roberto's journey through the building industry extends back over two decades and includes stops in Ottawa and Montreal before settling in Vancouver. In addition to his mechanical engineering degree, he has extensive experience in both new developments and existing buildings. Roberto has successfully taken on project management roles for subcontractors, a general contractor and a national property management firm. In the eight years before joining ZEBx, he worked in the building science group of a national consulting engineering firm, specializing in building assessments, capital planning, asset management, energy studies and building performance. Roberto is a member of the Energy Step Code Council, some of its subcommittees and a number of other advisory groups in BC. Through his various roles, he has become very well acquainted with the real estate, property management, consulting and construction industries. Most importantly, Roberto has a deep-rooted belief that the building industry has both a responsibility and a major contribution to make to address the climate crisis.  
 
Sheryl Peters, Provincial Director, Redevelopment - Development & Asset Strategies, BC Housing (Moderator) 
After starting her career in private sector construction & development, Sheryl joined BC Housing in 2009. Her portfolio that includes partnerships with other government agencies, municipalities and non-profit housing providers in the delivery of community housing solutions in the province.  Sheryl is a certified Project Management Professional with academics in urban geography (UBC) and architectural and building technologies (BCIT).  She has over 23 years of experience in design, marketing, development and construction management, in both the private and public real estate sectors.  Her career portfolio is a diverse range of projects that includes multi-residential developments; master planned / mixed use communities; hotels; neighbourhood shopping centres; and regional retail centres. 

As Provincial Director - Redevelopment, Sheryl manages the revitalization of aging BC Housing assets with the intention of modernizing sites to meet current housing needs and bringing forward best practices in sustainable urban design, engineering & construction. 

In her spare time, Sheryl has volunteered  with the Women of Urban Development Institute (UDI Pacific) Committee; the Urban Land Institute (ULI-BC) Innovation Product Council & Technical Advisory Panel; and co-leads the ULI-BC Partnerships for Health Equity Team.  Sheryl is passionate about facilitating affordable housing options and creating vibrant, complete & inclusive communities in BC.
