Name: UDI Workshop: Navigating Zero Carbon & Energy Building Code Changes
Date: October 20, 2023
Time: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM PDT
Registration: Sorry, public registration for this event has been closed.
Event Description:

On February 16, 2023, the Province confirmed that new energy efficiency requirements and an opt-in Zero Carbon Step Code will take effect starting May 1, 2023. The Government is establishing province-wide energy performance standards and allowing local governments to mandate GHG emission targets for new buildings.

As a result of these changes, some local governments that have implemented the ESC, have already indicated that they will be increasing their required steps and introducing new GHG reduction targets as early as this year.

The Province itself is planning to mandate that new buildings be net-zero energy ready by 2032 and have zero carbon emissions by 2030.

Our facilitators Jonathan Meads, Vice President - StreetSide Developments, A Qualico Company , and Dave Ramslie, COO and Co-Founder - Open Technologies along with our expert course faculty members will  guide you through this 1-day workshop to prepare you for current and future energy and sustainability related building code updates with a focus on Part 9 buildings and smaller Part 3 buildings.

Approvals & Regulations: Explain the current requirements that development managers will be facing from local governments.

Design & Construction: What are the best ways of achieving targets with your team. What questions do you need to ask your design and construction teams? What do you need to know so you are ready for these meetings? What concepts will help you to get there? How best to write RFP?

Costs & Incentives: How do these code changes and requirements impact your overall budget?   What does this do to your pro-forma? What are the incentives for "high performance buildings"?

Building Ownership and Resources: How do you transition from developer to owner? What to look out for to ensure a successful handover and maintain a sustainable relationship with your strata.
