Jill Schnarr, Vice President, TELUS Corporate Citizenship and Communications

My team, TELUS Corporate Citizenship & Communications, leads corporate communications, social and media relations, sponsorships, community investment, social purpose, brand marketing, TELUS Studios, TELUS Wise, corporate events, as well as the newly established TELUS Friendly Future Foundation.

By amplifying our internal and external campaigns, bolstering our storytelling impact and simplifying the way we create and collaborate across our teams, we are able to build and protect TELUS? brand and reputation. Building and protecting the TELUS culture and brand is the foundation of our communications portfolio. Engaging with our team members and customers is how we continue to be more than just a big company and, instead, become a trusted advisor and friend. To help us create this relationship with our customers, our team members are our best advocates and I enjoy seeing how they interpret and share our TELUS stories through their own channels.

I believe strongly in encouraging team member and partner collaboration and innovation and I have enjoyed building a strategy that is profitable for TELUS while also addressing key social issues. With over 27 years of telecommunications industry experience, it has been exciting to see TELUS grow and change, including becoming a global leader in corporate citizenship. I am incredibly proud of our TELUS Team who lead TELUS Days of Giving, facilitating over 36,000 volunteers globally in 2018 alone. Our Team TELUS Cares programs have enabled over $700 million in giving and 1.3 million volunteer days from TELUS, our employees and retirees since 2000.

Finding ways to connect the most vulnerable in our society is something we are passionate about and our team has launched major marketing campaigns such as Give Where We Live, Rise Above, Share Love, All Connected, 2017?s TELUS Million Hour of Giving, and our latest campaign to #EndBullying, engaging customers, team members and the general public to stand with us to #EndBullying. These ?little engine that could? campaigns showcase how social purpose can drive business benefit, enabling every dollar invested in the community to return over four times back to TELUS in business impact and 150 per cent to the community in societal impact.

How I volunteer reflects my passion for women and women?s health. I served as a director on the BC Women?s Hospital Foundation for 7 years, and as a TELUS Vancouver Community Board member for 6 years. I?ve been a Board Director and Chair of the Women?s Leadership Circle on the Vancouver Board of Trade, and I served on the fundraising cabinet for BC Women?s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, including being Co -Chair of Glow, the inaugural BC Women?s Hospital Gala.

I am the youngest of eight children and grew up in a busy, active household, which may explain my desire to juggle lots of responsibilities at once. Luckily, I have a very supportive family. In particular, my husband, Dave, has been cheering on our family over the past couple of years. In 2018, our two boys, Andrew and Dylan, completed high school and I earned my Masters of Business Administration from the Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria as part of TELUS? first MBA cohort.
